murakami/Nelson was responsible for coordinating architectural and engineering services and designing seismic safety improvements to this 126,000 sq. ft. historic auditorium/ classroom building. Wheeler Hall was originally constructed in 1915 and is considered one of the most architecturally significant and historically important buildings on the University of California’s Berkeley campus. Specific improvements to Wheeler Hall included rebracing interior walls around the large central auditorium and the transfer of shear forces through connections to the floor diaphragm.
