LAKE MERRITT BOATHOUSE
Oakland, CA

The Municipal Boathouse is a John Galen Howard designed building on the shore of Lake Merritt. The building was originally designed over 100 years ago as a high pressure salt water pumping station and a municipal boathouse for the City of Oakland.  As part of the Lake Merritt Master Plan, murakami/Nelson recommended renovating the building and reintroducing its historic activities.  The design for the rehabilitation and adaptive re-use of the Municipal Boathouse and surrounding parkland conforms to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Historic Rehabilitation and is LEED Gold certified.
