Tennis Club and
Athletic Facilities
Livermore, California

Through a program of continued renovation and expansion, murakami/Nelson architects have transformed a small and outdated tennis club into a modern and multi-purpose athletic facility. Since the completion of the project, the membership of the Livermore Valley Tennis Club has increased by more than 8 fold, attesting to both the effectiveness of the architectural programming and design, as well as to the community-oriented activities offered by the club.

The existing building, pool, and tennis courts were remodeled; a new grandstand for viewing tennis was added, and night lighting was installed. In addition, the recreational and athletic services were expanded through the construction of a new 6,200 square foot multi-sport building for aerobics, Nautilus and free weights, as well as locker, shower and steam facilities. Another new 3,500 square foot building provides the club's membership with a wide range of athletic and recreational activities. The field house accommodates basketball, soccer and volleyball, and includes an elevated track around the perimeter. The new facility also offers squash and racquetball, a pro shop, and expanded child-care services.
