LeConte Hall As a precursor to the seismic upgrade of the historic LeConte Hall on the U.C. Berkeley Campus, murakami/Nelson designed permanent and temporary surge spaces in LeConte Hall Annex, Birge Hall and the Hearst Field Annex for the labs that needed to be relocated. murakami/Nelson was chosen as executive architect for this seismic strengthening project at the univerist of California's Berkeley campus. The seismic strengenthening scheme was carefully planned to minimize the impact on the histroric features of the original 1922 structure designed by John Galen Howard. Reinforced concrete shear walls will be added inside the building, leaving the classic Beaux Arts architecture of the building exterior intect. The building houses 73,000 square feet of classrooms, research laboratories and offices for the physics department |
