murakami/Nelson provided space planning, schematic design and Tenant Improvement plans for Duwo Partners, whose clients were requesting general open office space in their large building complex in Oakland. Ivus, a high tech company required 14,000 sq. ft. of private offices and open workstations and requested a design that recreated the "excitement and intensity of the floor of the New York Stock Exchange." The final layout of the office includes a mezzanine with additional desks and conference pods looking out onto a workstation environment bathed in light distributed from the skylights above. A network of private offices steps back along the perimeter of the centralized open space, framing the clusters of workstations.

On the third floor of the same building is Dance Magazine, a New York magazine publication, which requested a sophisticated and serene design. The large open space with high ceilings and concrete columns was easily converted into 7,300 sq. ft. of private offices on the perimeter and low partitions in the center that shield the visitor from the collection of magazines on open shelves. The high volume space lends itself to exposed circular mechanical ducts that provide a sculpture of sorts. Tall multi-paned windows, starting nine feet above the floor on the north side of the building, bathe the space with natural light, making it feel airy and comfortable.

Across the hall from Dance Magazine, 2,000 sq. ft. of private office and minimal open space was designed for Birdsall, who requested a casual, colorful space. The concept was to create a playful environment which focuses upon a central pool table with purple felt, a color that is carried throughout the tenant space along with bright yellows and greens. Although situated on the third floor, the client requested access to outdoor space, so a roof deck was incorporated into the design.
