The Charles Franklin Doe Memorial Library houses the primary research collections in the humanities and social sciences on the Berkeley campus, as well as a variety of specialized collections. The building had suffered serious seismic, code, and programmatic deficiencies. Seismic strengthening work and code corrections allowed continued use of the building in a safe manner by students and faculty while protecting the building's historic character.
