This water-oriented island community is situated on the Richmond Shoreline of the San Francisco Bay. In designing the land forms, every effort was made to retain views, while at the same time providing maximum shelter from winter winds and wave action. Adjacent to the Richmond Yacht Club designed by murakami/Nelson, this multi-faceted development, built in phases, consists of more than 200 custom-built private homes and condominiums, a 260 berth marina and three office buildings providing 50,000 square feet of office space -- all built on landfill and over water on wood or concrete pilings. In designing the land forms, every effort was made to retain views, while at the same time providing maximum shelter from winter winds and wave action. As one of the last approved fill projects on the Bay, development of the area required close cooperation with BCDC.
